    1,why do yo study mythology?

There are tons of reasons for studying mythology. Some people are doing it for fun, others for projects or things of other importance. There is something very simple and basic about mythology that entrances even little kids, because they can understand it. Of course, the most common reason for studying mythology that I hear about is that teachers force you to. I research and study Greek, Roman, Egyptian, and Norse mythology because I am fascinated by the many different versions and events that happen in various myths.

To gain insight into the beliefs of ancient people, and apply this understanding to people today. The roots of all western civilization are in Ancient Greece. Many of our modern ideas on philosophy, art, architecture, science and politics come from there, not to mention language and culture.

You can study a subject at most universities called Classical Civilisations. It features a lot of ancient Greek and Roman mythology as you get to study books like The Odyssey, the ancient Greek and Roman religions and plays which all feature a lot of their mythology.

Unfortunately I believe it is mostly restricted to these two cultures in case you were looking to study Norse mythology or something like that, but as far as I know Classics is the closest think you will get to studying 'mythology' and its fairly accessable. Also at university you could choose the modules that focus more around your area of interest.

Also, if you are interested in the subject at a more hobbyish level you can take classics at GCSE and A level.

I think that Mythology can indeed give you a huge insight into people, who existed a long time ago, and how they thought. To this day we still believe in Christianity and whilst many people would not be offended if you were to refer to the ancient greeks religion of many gods as mythology (insinuating it isn't real) many people would be offended if you were to refer to Christianity as mythology as this is offensive to the religions believers, so I think it is slightly prejudice to denounce mythology and the study of it because we must respect peoples views; especially those who are no longer around to defend these views such as the ancient greeks.

Not only this but mythology helps us study anthropology and sociology.

And finally, mythology is hugel interesting to me and I know this to be true for quite a lot of people, so why study something like maths (which I hate with a passion) when I know I would be so much better at, more interested in and gain more satisfaction from studying mythology :)

I really enjoyed answering your question I hope you can see where I'm coming from?

    xx

3, What is the meaning of life? This is the most common phrase associated with any philosopher. Why is the world the way that it is? Throughout history, there have been a number of great minds exploring the human condition and what it all means. This site provides information about some of these great thinkers, from their views on religion to politics to their contemporary society.
